A future-proof key system for the electricity and water corporation KAHRAMAA

KAHRAMAA is a general electricity and water corporation, serving all 2.8 million citizens in the state of Qatar. KAHRAMAA wishes for a major expansion of the electricity network to meet rapidly growing demands, providing high quality and sustainable electricity for better living in Qatar. 

Extensive operations often bring their own challenges to locking and access control. In KAHRAMAA’s case, the problem was that they had several different master key systems, one for each power station, which made the number of keys large and difficult to manage.

Patented and well-designed master key system – the foundation of secure key control

Carefully designed master keying is the basis of key control and the system’s long-term success. The more expertise used in the master keying design, the easier the use and control of the keys, future extensions and the minimisation of potential security risks. The designing of the cylinder mechanism and the keying system must have the right balance between security and convenience in the operations.

As a solution to KAHRAMAA’s needs, Abloy introduced the mechanical ABLOY PROTEC² key system. KAHRAMAA's users, roles and the use of the extensive facilities were carefully studied in close collaboration with the local teams of KAHRAMAA and Abloy, enabling the right kind of master key system design for KAHRAMAA’s operations. The benefits of the new key system for KAHRAMAA are clear.

Easy to expand from mechanical to electromechanical

PROTEC² is not only secure and reliable, but also future-proof. As needs change, the system is easy to upgrade from mechanical to electromechanical with the intelligent CLIQ feature, enabling the management and tracking of all your keys and personnel access rights from a central location. In the future, KAHRAMAA is also planning to upgrade their current mechanical system to become electronic, especially in areas where access management and audit trail features are needed.
