CHEVAK operates critical water infrastructure in Cheb, which lies in the Western parts of Bohemia in the Czech Republic. As a vital water supplier for 85,000 people as well as a regional sewage treatment plant, the company needs a high level of security for their network of plants, reservoirs, and sewers. Co-operation with the local ABLOY office began from planning and installing a mechanic locking system more than fifteen years ago. Over the years the system has been updated to an electromechanical system to improve access management.
CHEVAK provides drinking water for close to 85,000 inhabitants who live within the Cheb district in the Czech Republic. The company serves the public in the fields of drinking water supply, drainage, and wastewater treatment regionally. In 2004 the company was looking for a partner who could offer a reliable locking system, that would meet both security demands as well as operational needs. The locking system had to cover different facilities from reservoirs to springs, treatment plants, workshops, warehouses, garages, switchboards, and administrative buildings. The first locking plan was prepared and set in action in co-operation with the regional ABLOY office, and mechanical locks were installed within the facilities.
In the first phase of the co-operation, access needs to premises were identified according to individual needs, such as in-house transport, laboratories, maintenance, and technicians. This required a detailed locking plan that is still in action today. Multiple ABLOY products were installed: cylinders were applied to switchboards, and padlocks were installed for fences and garages.
In 2014 the plan was updated, and mechanical locks were replaced with electromechanical locks for better security and safer entrances to the facilities. Currently nearly all original mechanical locks have been replaced with electromechanical PROTEC2 CLIQ locks. Cylinders and padlocks are installed in fences, manhole covers, sump covers and electrical switchboards. If a key gets lost, it can be replaced, and the original key’s access rights will not be revalidated thanks to the management system. The locking system also secures that entrance to buildings and facilities is accessible only for authorized keys.
“There has undoubtedly been an increase in security. ABLOY solutions have worked without problems, and we have managed to reduce the number of keys for operations and departments and streamline access to individual locks. A great advantage is that with a single key employees can access multiples sites. At the same time, by using electromechanical locks, we can trace back who unlocks our locks to better understand who has accessed certain facilities, and where. In terms of reliability, the safe and high-quality delivery of ABLOY services has been a great priority for us,” says Jan Adamek, the Operational and Technical Director of CHEVAK.
“Thanks to ABLOY solutions we have a clear overview of who can go where. In case of loss or damage to the key, we must have a spare ready. We can install them immediately to our existing systems and pass the new key to the user. At the same time, we can administrate keys for external suppliers whenever they need access to our premises”,
