- I ended up here with a little bit of luck. I was graduating from school when a classmate noticed that Abloy was looking for a locking designer. I didn’t even know what the role consisted of, but I thought applying anyway and would learn it later on. Well, I am still on the same road, though in the sales department nowadays. It feels like I am starting to be a part of the furniture here, Tapani laughs.
Markku, on the other hand, became interested in Abloy a couple of years ago when noticing an open Key Account Manager position and thus ended up as Tapani's colleague. Today, Markku works as a Business Development Manager in the housing segment. He supports sales in his work and analyzes the direction in which way housing is going in the future.
- Although my role has changed, we are still in close connection with Tapani. When you have a co-worker, you can really rely on, it makes everything easier. As it is, there is always someone at Abloy, who will help you in difficult situations. That’s the way you can also learn new things, Markku states.
Markku and Tapani especially value freedom in their own work at Abloy. Joona, who is responsible for Abloy's sales in Southern Finland in the role of Sales Manager, also thinks alike. His duties include leading a team of about 10 people and ensuring the co-operation of the distribution channel. Joona’s leadership style combines the idea of freedom and responsibility.
- I want to build my team so that my subordinates can work very freely. If it works out well, then it is an extremely important and successful combination for us. We have a very close team where we operate in an open atmosphere. When we are looking for a new employee, we are usually looking for a person who fits in our team as well as possible. In this way, we ensure that all of us can talk freely and dare to challenge each other. I think this way we all win, Joona says.
Tapani agrees with Joona. He also appreciates the fact that Abloy has many career opportunities. The career cycle strengthened by the fact that within the domestic sales unit as well as in the international sales units, there are wide range of opportunities that can be accessed according to one's own interests.
- I don't think there is such a philosopher's stone to figure out why Abloy is a better employer than others. If it were, then everyone would copy it. The whole package just works. When you are happy to go to work in the morning, then things are working right, Tapani states.
